We are immersed in history
The apartment is about 500 meters from two of the city’s most iconic monuments.
Just look west to catch a glimpse of St. Peter’s Basilica towering among the rooftops of the buildings in the Borgo district. Bramante, Michelangelo, Maderno and Bernini all contributed to the creation of this masterpiece of art, the scene of events carved in history, which over the centuries has become among the most beloved symbols of Rome and all of Christendom.
One need only turn east instead to admire Castel Sant’Angelo, which incorporates the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian and his successors later also became a bastion of defense for access into the city from the bridge in front. Sublime is the effect of the archangel Michael sheathing his sword at the top of the Mole Adriana, a symbolic gesture marking the end of the plague that afflicted Rome in 590 AD.
The Borgo district, where the Apartment on Via Tre Pupazzi is located, is traversed by the Passetto or er Coridore, an elevated and fortified passageway in the Vatican walls that served as an escape route for popes from the Vatican to Castel Sant’Angelo in case of need.
“Rome is not a city like any other. It is a great museum, a living room to tiptoe through” (Alberto Sordi)
